Certified Veterinary Technician
Education: Vet Tech Institute at Fox College
Pets: Hawkie (Cat), Buddy (Green-Cheeked Conure)
For as long as I can remember, my family has always taken our animals to TLC First Animal Hospital, so when I decided to pursue my career in Veterinary Medicine, it was natural for me to inquire here. I was given the opportunity to volunteer/shadow and gain the experience that I otherwise would not be able to obtain due to my young age. As I continued to come, I fell in love with the hospital, the great staff and Dr Sue’s way of practicing medicine. In 2017 I was hired as a Veterinary Assistant.
In 2016 I enrolled at the Vet Tech Institute of Fox College to study in their Veterinary Technology program. While at school I became a student mentor where I helped other soon-to-be CVTs, both academically and emotionally. It can be quite grueling to navigate through the many courses in the program, while keeping a clear head and dealing with the stresses that occur daily. I also spent some time as a kennel supervisor where I helped maintain the kennels for our on-site animals. In 2017 I graduated at the top of my class, with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. I also earned the prestigious award of “Most Dedicated”. In 2018 I passed my VTNE (boards) to become a Certified Veterinary Technician and continue to work at TLC as a Credentialed Tech. Being able to mix my passion for medicine with my love for animals, makes every day fun, interesting and rewarding. Going forward, I plan to specialize in avian medicine, marine medicine and endoscopy.
Outside of work I enjoy watching the Blackhawks, Cubs and Miami Dolphins. I enjoy fishing and spending time outside, especially in the forest preserves. I also volunteer at a small wildlife rehab center in southern IL. Working so close with wildlife has given me a new perspective and respect for the creatures that share this world with us. My pet companions include a long haired black cat named Hawkie, and a green-cheeked conure named Buddy.
